The book you don’t read won’t help

January 2015 I set myself a goal to read 12 books a year (seems alot) 1 a month (seems manageable but when!?)..a minimum of 10 pages a day (now that sounds manageable). I have kept a record of all that I have read and my list of 34 books (half way through Shantaram) is below.

A lot of these “books” I listened to on an app called Audible. If you struggle to find time to read a physical book this is a great way to get more info in on your commute etc.

Shout if you want to borrow one of the hard copies! Recommendations are always very welcome!

1. 12 Week Year – Moran and Lennington

Great book to make the most of your year.

3. Miracle Morning – Hal Elrod HARD COPY

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I used to HATE mornings, if you struggle finding enough time to do everything in your day/week or are always stressed/rushed/sleep in the mornings this is your book. READ IT. Step by step guide to make your morning more efficient.

4. Chimp Paradox – Prof Steve Peters HARD COPY

If you EVER get negative self-talk (I know you are nodding) then READ THIS. Read it. That is all.

5. The Big Leap – Gay Hendricks

HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Amazing book in changing your mindset around success, failure and daily actions.

6. You Are a Badass – Jen Sincero

If you need a full blown kick up the ass, read this.

7. The Slight Edge – Jeff Olsen HARD COPY

HIGHLY RECOMMEND

If you are new to personal development this book is a great start. Shows us how the seemingly small habits we create every day take us towards or away from the end goal.

8. Get Rich Lucky Bitch – Denise Duffield Thomas HARD COPY

Struggle with money? Read this.

9. The New Earth -Ekhart Tolle – HARD COPY

A self-help book by Eckhart Tolle, I have been reading these types of books for a few years and took a lot from it but if you are new to personal or self-development start with another one from this list first.

  1. The Four Year Career – Richard Brooke HARD COPY

A glimpse into the whirlwind industry of network marketing by multi billionaire Richard Brooke. Great if you want to learn more about the industry.

  1. How to win friends and influence people – Dale Carnegie HARD COPY

Horrible title. The actual book is a great insight into how people’s minds work.

  1. 7 Habits of Highly Effective People – Stephen Covey HARD COPY

Similar to the above, but looks much more inward than outward. Great if you want to improve relationship or leadership skills.

  1. Flip flop CEO – Janine Finney HARD COPY

Another insight into network/social marketing, how would you like your office to be the beach and uniform to be flip flops and bikini of your choice? Then read on.

  1. Vegan Body Building Made Easy – John Williams

Amazingly I read this back in 2015 but has taken me all this time to decide to actually go vegan in January, more on that on my Facebook page here. This is a great book for anyone wanting to change their food and lifestyle without their physique taking a hit.

  1. Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle – Tom Venuto HARD COPY

Great book for anyone wanting to get more in depth into weight based training and improve body composition, amazing index at the back that I use to dip and out of with clients. Shows macros and calroeies.

  1. What i Know for Sure – Oprah Winfrey

This is a lovely book, very short and easy to read. Learnt a lot about Oprah, you take a little life journey with her, learning lots about you along the way.

  1. Fluent in 3 months – Benny Lewis

For anyone who doesn’t know I have a Masters degree in Business and German, as well have studied Chinese on and off for years and a little Spanish. Languages Fascinate me, Lewis simplifies how to get cracking and learning.

  1. The Wolf of Wall Street – Jordan Belford

Loved the film so read the book. Book is even better.

  1. Celestial Prophecy – James Redfield

Great story book, a journey of Spirituality to Peru to find the hiding manuscripts. Loved this book as it’s a great halfway between a personal development book and a story to read before bed.

  1. Slow Sex: The Art and Craft of the Female Orgasm

This is a great read for men/women in a hetero/homosexual relationship. The key I took from it, is that communication is key.

  1. Mastering Your Meangirl – Melissa Ambrossini

This is similar to chimp paradox, my go to book if I need a nudge to get motivated. Very much aimed at women but relevant for guys too.

  1. The Power of Habit – Charles Duhigg

What your brain is doing behind the habits, very sciency book. Loved it but needs 2 reads to let it soak in.

  1. The Power is Within You – Louise Hay

Similar to an Eckhart Tolle style book. Very spiritual but lovely.

Great book to improve your personal training business.

  1. The 5 Levels of Leadership – John Maxwell

HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Whatever your job this book is relevant for becoming a better leader to your team/self.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Once again, quite a spiritual book but great at looking at the world and how you let things affect you.

  1. A Complete Guide to Sports Massage – Tim Pain

Self explanatory – a book I read alongside my Sports Massage course this year. HARD COPY

Very spiritual book around being mindful of your mind in the moment.

  1. How to Hygge – Signe Johansen  HARD COPY

A friend bought me this as a joke when I started getting hooked on social media. Its such a lovely book and reminded me how similar the Scandinavian way of life is similar to the Scottish.

A pretty wordy self development book. Great theory but quite repetitive in my opinion.

  1. Becoming a Supple Leopard – Dr. Kelly

Great reference book for stretching and mobility. VERY HEAVY.

  1. Why me want eat: Fixing your food Fuckupitude – Dr Krista Scott-Dixon HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO EVERYONE – HARD COPY

All of us have some form of an eating disorder these days. This is a great workout to help you let it all out.

  1. Shantaram – Gregory David Roberts “a convicted Australian bank robber and heroin addict who escaped from prison and flees to India. The novel is commended by many for its vivid portrayal of tumultuous life in Bombay”
