How can I get and keep myself motivated?

Is your motivation waning? What’s the secret?
My opinion is that there IS NO SECRET or shortcut to getting where you want to be. We need to grow through the learnings to make sustainable changes. 

 

So here are my top tips for keeping motivated

 

1. Having a strong reasons for doing it, remembering your long/short term goals like the endorphin release or feeling great on a future trip or holiday

 

2. Accountability!! Get yourself an accountability partner or join in our community at Healthy Body Healthy Mind to hold yourself and others accountable to help you make positive and sustainable changes.

 

3. Remind yourself you are human. Some days you will feel unmotivated and manage to drag yourself into your work out and feel great after. Other days you just won’t so try not to give yourself a hard time on the days your body says NO WAY.

 

4. Miss a day but not 3, miss a week but not 2. It is way harder to build a routine than to pause than continue with the momentum.

 

5. Plan/diarise your exercise and the getting ready in advance. E.g. Mon, weds, Fri doing 30 mins of exercise then 30 minutes to shower and get changed, lay your clothes out the night before

 

6. Celebrate your wins. Big wins – getting fitter/strong, small and important wins – doing your workout 3 times one week! Celebrate with a dance, calling a friend, sharing in our Healthy Body Healthy Mind group, buy yourself a new gym top etc!
